Round 10 the final
fling and what a race meeting it was with a fantastic turn
out of cars 26 cars out for the last round. It was #03 John
Marshall, #3 Ross Marshall, #4 Kieren Murray (he just wanted
to get back out before the end as he had been out in the team
car early on in the year), #6 David Hunter and #7th Carol
Brown. Carol was hoping to get the championship back in her
grasp but as Ross was far in front after her dnf at Croft
it was looking hard to catch him but Carol gave everthing
she had.
Before we got the
cars out it was wet and the drivers still did not have there
wet tyres sorted out - Kieren was having his first time on
the Federal wet tryes and he was getting used to them.
Ross Marshall drew
near the front for race one although Ross Mickel won the race
after a hard fight. Ross Marshall might have settled for second
so that he could maintain his championship lead and he finished
in front of Carol to m aintain that points lead. JM was not
too far back in 3rd and Carol a great 4th from the back. Robbie
Burgoyne drove well for 9th and David Hunter was 7th. Gerard
McCosh was driving well as ever and maintaining third in the
championship.
Kieren was just
loving his time in the car and being looked after by Ian our
new team mate. Some of the Legends newcomers are getting it
sorted with David Allen getting good results. Colin Atkinson
is getting to grips with his water cooled engine. The top
9 drivers were all in the 1.08 bracket with the next six in
the 09s. Paul O'Brien was trying to sort his car. Carol got
the fastest lap.
Race 2 was a full
turn round of the grid with Ross right at the back this time
and Carol at the front and what a race that was looking like
Carol leading from the start but being pushed hard by Ross
Marshall then Ross mickel and John Marshall but on lap 4 she
had a slight bit of a misfire but what a drive she did to
lap 6 when Ross got the better of her as he was not wanting
Carol to finish in front and he was not seemingly taking things
easy!. There was a great finish with Ross Marshall ahead of
Ross Mickel - so close at 0386 seconds. Carol got the misfiring
car home in 7th . John Marshall was driving so well and remember
he is racing the Escort as well at this meeting. Such a fast
and consistent driver.
Gerard was in 4th
- that's why he has got 3rd in championship as he has been
getting constant places all season with the top rookie Robbie
always up there near the top 5th and David just getting to
grips with his new tyres. Scott Hynds been driving great and
getting great results - it looks like Errico Palazzo is getting
to grips with his car in 11th place . All the drivers are
moving up the pace but Ross Marshall was as determined as
ever and set the fastest lap.
The final race
of the Beatsons Building Supplies Scottish Championship looked
like it would be some race with the two Rosses off the back
along with JM. I did not see what caused the incident at the
start but when it came to the red flag it must be the most
cars I have seen out of one race. Ross Mickel's car was bing
fixed by Aly Hunter in the pits whilst the other machines
were being recovered.
lane and his car
was being fixed by ali Hunter while all the cars were being
recovered Then on lap 4 and when it was stoped it was the
6 cars from Burnett Motorsport at the front but as all the
cars had not crossed the line when the flag came out after
Paul O'Brien went off at the bottom end of the track hitting
it hard in the tyre wall and getting winded - there was long
race stop as Paul had to be cut out of his car due to him
being winded and his neck was kind of tender.
In between times
they had to do a re grid ready for the 6 lap final all Ross
had to doo was start the race and that was the championship.
Paul was out of the car by the way and he was ok after a look
over. His car was not likely to go back out but what a race
it was going to turn out with Scott Hynds getting back to
the front as he lost it at the hairpin in all the hassle to
win the final but as Ross and Carol and JM wanted that 1st
place it turns out that Ross got the better of Scott and Carols
car was on the pace chasing Ross but she just wanted to get
the final race and right behind her was John Marshall with
Scott Hynds and he has been going great all year with Ross
Mickel then the dark horse Gerard McCosh with David Hunter
right behind he was still chasing his spot further up the
championship - what a weekend he had realy enjoyed the wet
race day as he never liked it before. What an 8th place for
Kieran with the fast and fighting Robbie Burgoyne - he started
from pit lane after his front prop shaft being replaced while
it was on red flag Elliott Mason doing great too since its
been such a long time since he was last out but from 26 cars
to 17 it sure looked like some race.
What an end to
championship with 1st Ross Marshall 2nd Carol Brown 3rd Gerard
McCosh 4th John Marshall but that was 1st team car so it would
be 4th to Ross Mickel. who did well catching up as he missed
the first round. David Hunter 5th with Glenn Burtenshaw 6th
and what a drive from the rookie champion Robbie Burgoyne
- 8th place in his1st year in a legend car. 9th was Scot Hynds
- sure he must be so happy with that Paul O'Brien 14th and
missing couple rounds so not bad from a driver that's got
to get here from Ireland all season.
And I must thank
Frixa for great help with the new brakes as I am so sure it
gave all my drivers and others the edge on late braking. After
the drivers get used to them they find it so good when you
can leave you braking to the last second. Also to all my sponsors
for their help all season and the help of Barry Welch from
Digitex TV and tv Dave from AJK tv. Also to John Marshall
for Beatsons Building Supplies and much more thanks to all
who helped.
