18th April -
Legends Scottish Championship in association with Specsavers
Round One, Knockhill
Well, Sunday 18th
April, the opening round of the 2010 Scottish Legends Cars
Championship in association with Specsavers.
Poor John Marshall
fell victim to the Icelandic volcano ash - he was stuck in
Dubai and could not get the flight which would have got him
home to race in both the Legends and the Classic Sports and
Saloons.
We were in our
pop-up gazebo joining up with Ericco Palazzo's team. JM was
missed but he was having better weather than we had…
The guys went out
for practice before 9am in the biggest downpour ever - this
proved to be a good move due to the day that followed.
David started at
the front position (2) with Alasdair Gauld in 14th and newcomer
Keiren Murray at the back as he is of course a rookie.
This was the first
time that the Scottish Legends have used the Raceiver system
- thanks to Specsavers who have come on board with the Scottish
Legends in 2010.
Ben Mason went
on to win the opening race of the season but David fought
hard and was a very impressive 5th. Kieren held his own despite
a technical problem. Ali G drove well as usual to come in
6th.
In race two the
starting positions were reversed (as is usual in Legends)
and it was Colin Atkinson who won this after a good race.
Ali G was second with Ross Mickel close behind.
Well done to Colin
- he could not smile wide enough. David did well making his
way to 9th position with Kieren a steady paced 15th .
Low and behold
the rain stopped off for our final race which saw Ben Mason
take his second win of the day with Colin Atkinson second
- clearly on a roll! David took a superb third place with
sponsors (Mum and Dad, uncle Robert and Mrs Marshall Snr there
to cheer him on!).
Alasdair suffered
a spin although there was not damage. Keiren finished in 12th
place still settling himself in and calmly dealing with the
intermittent cut-out problem he endured throughout the day.
Support for Keiren
included his sponsor (dad) his mum and sister Gemma plus his
very own lucky mascot (baby niece) Francesca!
We missed the rest
of the team but omg the boys done well. Well done to the team
- it goes goes without saying what a superb job done. The
next Scottish round has the team all together again supporting
the GTs.
In summary - first
round put to bed. Little damage done and a few teething problems
, David sitting in 3rd position, Ali in 5th and Kieren as
cool as ever. Alls well that ends well.
Also to mention
Ericco Palazzo was presented with an award for the best turned
out car by the Scouters. How pleased we were all for Colin
Atkinson on his awaited win Well done! Lets hope we see some
sunshine at the next round. Kieren's stickers and wee problem
fixed, Ali and David keeping their pace and the rest of the
team back in good health . Truly the home of champions .
