European Cup

2nd, 3rd & 4th October - European Cup
Spa Francorchampsl

Burnett Motorsport get the team ready for Spa with John Jon Higgins. John Marshall, Ross Marshall, Nick Brace, Lance Gauld, Alistair Gauld and, thanks to Marshall Construction and Beatsons Building Supplies, a very late entry for David Hunter. So after a busy two days sorting out some broken cars from Knockhill we loaded the cars and bus and set out on our journey to Spa race circuit. We took a long ferry ride on Tuesday afternoon with team getting to Belgium on Wednesday and heading for Spa Francorchamps. We arrived there for what turned out to be a very busy three days of testing qualifying and racing with the French Legends Cup and what a great welcome they gave us all, although I am not sure if they were happy at the end of the weekend but I am sure along with ourselves we all had a great experience with JJ, Ross and Nick along with Niki Meredith taking all the spoils.

There was a bit of a down side on race 2nd part of race two on Sunday when Ross had 2nd place in bag and it turned out the car had not been fuelled. He ran out just before the race ended and I am sure that problem has been addressed with the team. Ross fitted in great at Spa as he was just getting into race mode in the last race but got cut up and had a bit of loss of rear end grip which left him getting major damage at the front and that took him out the race but what a time from the start getting a first and 2nd and fastest lap. He went away a happy Scottish champion. After an engine change in Nick's car and the rear axle breaking in the 1st race Sunday he went to drive the car faultlessly working his way from way back and getting a well deserved 3rd place in the Sunday last race. As for John Marshall he loved his weekend and despite driving a car on Sunday that just would not work for him on the rear what a great 4th place he had in the last race Sunday only to get a drive through penalty which caused him to get 10th instead of 4th but what a drive it was - I think he just wanted to get a drive through as it was on the F1 pit lane - sure that got him a large smile! David, after driving his car and having to work so hard, had great weekend. He did not finish the 1st race on Sunday as he got a problem with the ignition disc - the wire broke off so after sorting out that he went out to drive his best. In Sunday's last race Lance broke his car - the engine gave up on him but he was driving the car so well. We set about the engine change to get Alasdair out which we did and he drove the car very well but did not finish the race. Lance got back in on Sunday morning to find the engine had developed a misfire so the team set about changing the engine before Alasdair went back out. What a drive he had in the last race on Sunday - excellent result.

As for JJ, he was in his element as he said, "What treat to drive flat through Eau Rouge" and he took five out of six wins with the other race win going to his team mate, Ross.

I am sure after Niki Meredith got his car sorted he enjoyed his weekend too - he had and the guys talking for sure - Nick 3rd Niki 2nd and JJ 1st what a busy but great weekend we all had and the Burnett Motorsport team worked so hard as ever - thanks to all my team.
